RESEARCH PROFILE:

Understanding real-life human behavior requires a highly interdisciplinary approach including mental, social and cultural factors. Studying why and how individuals act as they do necessitates an understanding of the relationship between socio-cultural factors, such as ideas, norms and institutions, and mental mechanisms such as motivation, perception and identity.

I research two main fields: culture-cognition interaction, which involves developing interdisciplinary frameworks of how culture shapes individual minds, and interpersonal relationships. The latter is a substantive field where I strive to understand how cultural ideals, neuro-biological and psychological mechanisms interact in love, sex and relationship practices.
